Comedy Corner #4-WEGO: Laughter is the Best Medicine (#HAWMC)

Every week I post funny jokes and videos.  As I’ve blogged about, humor is an important tool I use to manage pain.  Laughing, the physical act of it, releases endorphins also known as the “feel good hormones.”  These hormones help us manage stress, which in my case comes from multitasking four illnesses: bipolar disorder, polycystic ovarian syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, and asthma.   I’m also participating in WEGO’s Health Activist Writer’s Month challenge by (trying to) answer one post per day.  I participated by answering 30 prompts last November.  Today’s prompt is:

Laughter is the Best Medicine. In honor of April Fool’s Day, is there a something that always makes you laugh? A memory, favorite joke?

Katt Williams Routine, “Poor Little Tink Tink”

Katt Williams is one of my favorite stand-up comedians because he often jokes about suffering and triumph over adversity.  (Note: Some of you might find the language foul, which I understand.  If that’s the case, you can see last week’s Comedy Corner, which has no cursing.  Kevin Bacon’s Footloose entrance is hilarious.)  Katt’s sketch is great when I’m having a bad day.  Being in pain and tired 24/7 is hard enough but sometimes there are people in our lives who make our complicated lives even more difficult.  Like your supervisor at work who loses important documents and blames it on you?  Or the relative who says insensitive things about your illness when you most need support?  Or the cable company that comes a week late?  This sketch reminds me of times like that.  Katt jokes about a disabled athlete who rises above his circumstances and has to deal with difficult people.

I love the physical humor Katt does and his brand of smart humor.  It’s like a lot of his humor comes from a place of deep pain.

What makes you laugh?
