Your Input!: Interviews & Fashionably ill Newsletter Coming Soon

UPDATE 11/11/15: You can SUBSCRIBE to Fashionably ill’s monthly newsletter here at www.fashionablyillgift.com and get your free Depression Tool Kit.  Get stuff done and advocate for yourself!  The Kit has:

  • A Map of 10 Strategies for getting stuff done when you’re depressed
  • 4 Scripts to help you explain your depression or bipolar disorder to loved ones, professors, and employers

I’ve been so encouraged by people’s comments on this blog and messages on Facebook.  (I appreciate your patience as I try to respond to every comment.  Honestly, there are days when I’d forget where my nose is if it wasn’t on my face.)  You, my readers, have inspired me with your stories of battling a wide variety of illnesses: both invisible and visible illnesses; rare and common illnesses.  In fact, next month I’m going to start interviewing readers who have asked to share their stories on this blog.
I took a poll on Fashionably ill’s Facebook Page and I got an overwhelming response from people who want to do this.  Please leave a comment below this post if you are interested in sharing your story in a print interview.  (I will use first names or change people’s names whenever that is a concern.)

Why Do Interviews?

A lot of people (both women and men) have asked to have their story featured so they can share it with loved ones who don’t understand what it’s like to live with chronic illness.  Aside from cultivating empathy, my goal is to discover different people’s coping mechanisms.  What can we learn from each other?  What helps different people survive trials?  What is resilience?

What Do You Want?  Newsletter

blue-website-buttons-1-1369148-mAnother project I’m looking to start in the future is a Fashionably ill e-newsletter that would go out once or twice a month.  I want your input.  What would you like to see in a newsletter?  Stories?  What subjects would you like me to write about?  Are there specific illnesses you’d like to read about?  How often would you like to get a newsletter in your inbox?  Feel free to leave a comment if you are interested in getting the newsletter.

Guest Posts

Another way to build community is guest posts.  A few readers who blogs have approached me about doing guest posts.  I think this is a great idea.  As you can see on my “Blogs I Read” section, I’m all about sharing information.  I can put up to one guest post (article a month; 500 word limit) a week.  If you are interested in writing a guest post or having your blog listed in Blogs I Read, leave a comment below.

Jessica read your blog and am happy you are going to do all of this for us-there is an illness that I would like to see you talk about. Interstial cystitis. it is a overlapping condition from fibromyalgia and is inflammation of the bladder-does this sound interesting to you? I have had this four about 4 years .

Hi Margie, Yes! I would love to interview you. It’s important to create awareness for all of the above conditions. Thanks for using your undoubtedly painful experiences to help others. I will update you with more info. This month has been the busiest month of my life…I can’t wait until Mid-April (after taxes, of course). I think I’ll sleep for 10 days and then get on with these interviews. Have a great week.
