Hear me speak October 7 at 2 pm CST about CESSA, mental health legislation
As some of you may know, I am the Mental Health Policy Analyst at Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago. I a have been working here for three years. Part of my job is advancing the mental health legislation, the Community Emergency Services and Supports Act (CESSA). This is a landmark piece of legislation written by Access Living and signed into law by Governor Pritzker in 2021. The law goes into effect in July 2027. This Wednesday (October 7), I will be co-presenting about CESSA, Illinois’s mobile crisis response system, and how you can get involved if you are interested in seeing more people who are in mental / behavioral health crisis get local mental /behavioral health supports. You can register for the event here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VBHslqm6SyKFjfRJPPlRBQ#/registration
This event is a great introduction to CESSA or a re-introduction to the law. We will have community members, mental health workers, street outreach and disability rights advocates in attendance. Advocates include people with lived experience such as people with mental health, behavioral health conditions or developmental disabilities or their loved ones.

Register Now!
Everyone who registers will get a recording of the event even if you cannot attend in person. I encourage you to register at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VBHslqm6SyKFjfRJPPlRBQ#/registration
To learn more about the origins of CESSA, you can read about the story of Stephon Watts here on Access Living’s website. You can read about CESSA and find (free) best resources on crisis response here.
Please share the event with your networks and anyone who might be interested!
Regards,
Jessica
