Stila Makeup Review: Lipstick, Eye Shadow, & Mascara

1560401_558479374236755_1502489719_nIn this article, I’ll be reviewing three products from Stila:

1) After Glow Lip Color (shade: Tangerine Dream)

2)  Countless Color Pigments (shade: Finale)

3)  Forever Your Curl Curl Memory Mascara

After Glow Lip Color

s1514512-main-heroThis shade Tangerine Dream is great for people who want a bold pop of color but don’t want to wear red or purple.  The lipstick has a soft buttery feel to it with a matte finish.  If you prefer matte over gloss, you’ll enjoy Stila’s After Glow Lip Color.  What struck me most about this product is that it’s so easy to apply if you have coordination issues (as I sometimes do because of my neuromuscular autoimmune disease).  Tied with Arbonne’s lipstick (which I’m going to review later), Stila is the most fool-proof lipstick.  Holding a tube of After Glow is as easy holding a crayon.   Price: $18.00 at Sephora

Countless Color Pigments

StilabeforeafterThe Countless Color Pigments collection features compacts of colors that can be worn alone or together.  I chose ‘Finale’ because it features: pink, orange, yellow, with a hint of red.   I learned that a little goes a long way.  Warning:  This is a highly pigmented product.  If you wear it, apply lightly and build coverage if you want.  So as you can see on the left side of the comparison shot, the first time I wore it, I looked like a clown.  (Why did my family let me go to church looking like that?)  The second time I wore it, I was softer with my brush strokes and I enjoyed the way Finale looked paired with  Tangerine Dream.   When applied properly, Finale gave me a nice sheer color that contrasted nicely with black eyeliner.   Price: $22.00 at Sephora

Forever Your Curl Curl Mascara

s1330141-main-heroPrice:  $22.00 at Sephora.  I’ve previously reviewed mascaras from Tarte, Dior, and CHANEL and  more recently Benefit, Clinique, and Lancôme.   I’m wearing Forever Your Curl in the pictures above.  I love Stila’s mascara and would put it up there in the mascara pantheon with CHANEL and Lancôme.  Who benefits most from Forever Your Curl Curl?  Women with sparse lashes or lashes that clump together typically.  Stila’s mascara multiplies lashes, curls them, and makes them pop.   Best of all, it has the coolest name!  Thanks Stila for making me smile and reminding me of my childhood and Paula Abdul’s Forever Your Girl music video:

Hi, I have five illnesses--bipolar disorder, myasthenia gravis (neuromuscular autoimmune disease), polycystic ovarian syndrome, asthma, and psoriasis. Most of the organs in my body are affected. I'm dedicated to being a stylist for sick women. As someone who has experienced changes in my appearance due to my 12 meds (including Prednisone), I know how hard it can be when your face and body change overnight. (In fact, because of treatment, between 2008 to 2010, I went from a size 0 to a size 10. While I lost the weight, there are permanent changes in my face and body, which I've grown to appreciate.) My blog will also help women deal with other issues like surviving chronic pain and fatigue. Healthy people can also use this blog as a window into what life with illness is like. Let this website be a place where we can draw strength from each other despite our illnesses and find solutions to our everyday challenges!
